Rack Function

What's the difference between all the racks?

We have created multiple Steadyracks to suit various types of bikes. To find the correct Steadyrack for your bike, please visit our Choosing the Correct Bike Rack page to learn how to accurately measure your bike.

What do you mean by roll in, roll out?

With a Steadyrack, there is no need to lift or juggle your bikes. Simply squeeze your back brake, grab the handlebars and walk backwards to lever the bike onto the rear wheel. Then you just roll your bike's front tire in and out of the rack!

Do all the racks pivot?

Yes –  all of our racks feature our innovative pivot to the left and right.

What is the function of the rear tire bracket/rest?

The rear tire rest/bracket is designed to prevent the bike from swinging from side to side when pivoting a bike in the rack. This keeps bikes safe and secure and eliminates damage to the wall. Your tire is only required to have partial contact with t

Will hanging my bike damage the bike frame, forks or wheels?

Hanging a bike in a Steadyrack will not cause any damage to your frame, forks or wheels. No part of the bike frame touches the rack, only the front tire, which is cradled in the steel arms.

Do the racks swing freely/why doesn't my Steadyrack swivel easily?

Steadyracks are assembled using a specific tension for the nuts (torque setting = 5nm) that holds the central spine to the top and bottom mounting brackets. This setting is designed to give sufficient tension to the pivot to ensure bikes can be loade

My tires are jamming/getting stuck in the top of the rack.

The racks are designed to cover a wide range of tire widths. Some wider tires will fit tightly in between the arms of the rack. As long as you can still release them by pulling on the handlebars with minimal force it's fine. It actually helps to ensu

Can I lock my Steadyrack into one position or any angle?

No, it's not possible to lock the rack solid in one position. You can tighten the nuts sufficiently that the rack will be very hard to pivot which will effectively hold it in the one position. To do this you need to remove the two plastic mounting br

Does the bike have to be at 90 degrees to the wall when mounting or dismounting the bike?

No, you can load and unload the bike at any angle provided that the central pivot bar nuts are set to the factory setting of 5nM.

How far will my bike stick out from the wall when pivoted against the wall?

It really depends on the width of your handlebars and the pedals. It will fold until the handlebars touch the wall but not quite 90 degrees or flat to the wall. For a normal road bike bar, we would allow about 400mm or around 16 inches, and for a mou

How do Steadyracks save space?

By storing your bikes vertically with a Steadyrack, you’ll be able to pivot the bikes each direction, placing them closer to the wall. This will not only save floor space, but also more space in smaller areas, which is helpful when sharing the space

Is it possible to use the Steadyrack with the rear wheel in the rack and the front wheel down?

The Steadyrack won’t work with a rear wheel because of the derailleur and gears. One of the main features is the way you roll your bike in and out of the rack. It’s very easy to balance the bike on the back wheel and push forward until the front tire

Can I add a lock to my Steadyrack?

Yes - all our racks are compatible with most types of locks, including chain, cable and D-locks. It is important that you do not rely on the rack arms, as the bolts holding these to the rack frame can be undone.

How do you get your bike in the front wheel position without lifting?

The best process is to put the rear brake on and walk backwards to raise the bike up onto the rear tire. This ensures that there is minimal effort used and allows you to roll the bike in and out of the rack with ease.

Why has my Steadyrack loosened?

Over time, the pivot may loosen slightly, which is completely normal and simply allows for freer movement. The nyloc nuts on the pivot bar are factory-set to 5Nm, so you can retighten them to this specification if you prefer the original setting. If

Are the rack arms interchangable?

Steadyracks do not come interchangeable and cannot be changed from one style to another. This is because the rack arms are not sold individually and come pre-assembled.

Why is there a break in the metal at the top of the rack near the washers?

This part of the rack is a notch designed to act as a stopper to ensure the rack arms do not over-extend. It is a purposeful design on all of our racks and will not cause any issues with your rack or its function.
